William W. "Bill" O'Nan, age 92, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Otterbein at Monclova where he was surrounded by his family. He was born on July 13, 1921 to Frederick and Blanche O'Nan in Central City, Kentucky. Bill moved to Toledo in 1924 and graduated from Waite High School. He attended Bowling Green State University with a degree in art education(cum laude). Bill taught elementary art in Rocky River, Ohio for thirty years. Following his retirement, he returned to Toledo. He was a member of Cass Road Baptist Church, The Toledo Museum of Art, and Friends of the Toledo Lucas County Libraries.
Bill loved to travel and see the world, which often inspired his art work. He visited Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii, and many countries in Europe. He had a passion for the theatre, and attended performances regularly.
In addition to his parents and stepfather, Frank Snapp, Bill was preceded in death by cousins who were like siblings to him; Kenneth McDonald and Dorothy Rieck. Left to cherish his memories are his cousins; Lonna(Fred)Mikesell and their daughter, Jennifer(Brian)Gruber and family; Jim(Gwen)McDonald and their children, Melissa and Tyler; Lynn(Richard Whiting), Al Rieck, Diane Saylor, and Betty VanKleek. Bill will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit.
The family will receive guests on Monday, September 16, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd.(419-381-1900). Funeral Services will follow at 4:00 p.m. Interment will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, at Toledo Memorial Park.
