William V. "Bill" Kina, age 86, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, where he was surrounded by his family. He was born to Stanley and Dorothy (Jacobs) Kina on May 27, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio.
Bill was a WWII Navy veteran serving in Normandy on the USS Atlas ARL-7. Before joining The Toledo Police Department, he worked for many years as a Tool & Die maker. Bill retired from The Toledo Police Department after 28 years of service as a Lt. Detective in the homicide division. He was a member of the American Legion Post #512 for 54 years, member of F.O.P. for over 60 years and a member of Trilby United Methodist Church. Bill especially loved the years that he sailed his boat on Lake Erie at Bay Point.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Bernice Alyene (Whitescarver) Kina; sons, James (Barb) Kina of Bryantown, Maryland, Larry (Barb) Kina of Toledo, Ohio and Karl (Maggie) Kina of Owings, Maryland; sisters, Helen Burgess of South Bend, Indiana and Jeanette Teal of Perrysburg, Ohio; step-daughters, Charlotte Wilcox of Toledo, Ohio, Karen (Kent) Ingalsbe of N. Ft. Myers, Florida, Pat (Steve) Ingalsbe, Brenda (Ron) Conrad and Carol Halsey all of Toledo, Ohio; grandchildren, Daveda Schmidlin, Desirae Kina, Brett and Justin Kina, Jessica Swanson , Nick and Carolyn Kina; Kellie Knaggs, Shawn Ingalsbe, Jodi Smith, Tracy Metzger, Kristi Frazier, Michelle Haley, Samantha Scharer, Amy Hoff and Ronnie Conrad; 22 great-grandchildren and 2 expected great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson and 4 nieces, Carol, Diane, Sandy and Sharon; sisters-in-law, Clarine (Paul) Baldwin of Dayton, Ohio, Marge Angerer of Ida, Michigan; brothers-in-law, Jay (Mary) Whitescarver of Maumee, Ohio and Jewel (Pat) Whitescarver of Russellville, Kentucky and Ken (Joanne) Whitescarver of Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jenny Westray.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Memorial Services will begin in the funeral home Saturday at 3:00 p.m., followed by a Final Salute service rendered by The Toledo Police Department and military honors provided by the Lucas County Veterans Burial Corp.
