William L. Seal

September 16, 1947 — August 27, 2022

William L. Seal, of Sylvania, passed away unexpectedly on the afternoon of Saturday, August 27, 2022. Bill died peacefully in the ICU at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family. He was 74 years old.

Bill was born in September 1947 to Leonard and Elizabeth Seal. He served as an Army infantry serviceman during the Vietnam War. After the war, he worked at Plaskon Products in South Toledo and then went on to work at the Jeep Assembly Plant. He married his loving wife, Linda, in 1970. They were together for 52 wonderful years.

His greatest sources of pride were his two children and their spouses. He loved them so much, he used to say he had four children, not two. But more than anything, he loved being "Gramps" to his four grandchildren: Jack Attack, Bennie Boy, and the "Pie Sisters," Cutie and Sweetie. They brought such joy to his life, each and every day. They were his reason for living.

Bill has been a lover of baseball since he was a child. Some of his children's earliest memories are traveling to Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio to watch Reds games. Collecting baseball memorabilia was a passion of his and sitting in his "baseball room" was his favorite way to relax.

Always the collector, he also compiled an extensive assortment of Christmas decorations and lights. Every fall, he would spend weeks decorating his house and yard. The day after Thanksgiving would always be the official "Lighting of the Cheese," because his son had once said the decorations were "cheesy." He loved watching out the window as cars and buses from all over streamed by to see his displays.

In addition to being a collector, Bill was known by friends and family as an avid shopper. He would frequently ask people their clothing sizes and show up the next time with shirts, dresses or jackets for them. He loved end-of-season clearance sales and store closings where he could find a steal.

Bill is survived by his wife, Linda; son, William Seal III; daughter, Terri Seal-Roth; son-in-law, Andy Roth; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Seal; grandchildren, Jackson Seal-Roth, Benjamin Seal-Roth, Abbey Seal, and Olivia Seal; sister, Georgia Morrow; sister-in-law, Ruth Luettke; and special lunch buddy and driving companion, niece Angela Luettke. Many more nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends will mourn his loss. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Elizabeth, and siblings, Connie, John, and Pete.

The family would like to thank the ICU staff at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio. Their care and compassion somehow made the unbearable actually bearable.

Interment will be at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania, Ohio. In the coming weeks, a private graveside ceremony will take place along with a small celebration of life (complete with his favorite foods, Gino's Pizza and Handel's ice cream) for his close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Bittersweet Farms, 12660 Archbold-Whitehouse Rd, Whitehouse, OH 43571.
