William Howard Ishler

November 11, 1953 — October 25, 2018

William Howard Ishler "Bill" was born November 11, 1953 and died October 25th 2018. He graduated from Whitmer High School with honors in track, chess and debate. Bill served in the Army as a military policeman from 1971-1973. He was stationed in Germany and advanced to managing the station in his time there. He was proud of his service and always supported other veterans, working for the Veterans Administration during college. When his time in the Army ended, he attended the University of Toledo, where he graduated with a degree in political science. He also married the love of his life in this time period, Lee Anne Hoffman, whom he described as "the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen." Following college, Bill began work as a line operator for the Jeep Corporation. He was well-liked by his coworkers and was the type of man who would take the hardest jobs and figure out how to do them the most efficiently. He was always willing to help others out. He was promoted to be a company electrician and retired from the corporation in 2006.

Bill devoted his life to service, especially serving his own family. When his children were young, you would find him at every sporting event, often coaching or serving as an umpire. He put in countless hours driving his daughter all over the state to gymnastic competitions. He was an active member of his church, Christ the King, and taught religious education with his wife for many years. He was generous with his time, gifts and talents.

Bill loved to fish and spent a majority of his retirement pursuing his passion. He traveled all around the United States to many different fishing holes and even went deep sea fishing off Barbados and fished in Hawaii. He was the type of grandpa who chased the kids all around the house, took them fishing, and gave them rides on his back. He was quiet and gentle, but had an amazing sense of humor and loved to laugh. His son described him as "ever hopeful and generous to a fault." He was a larger than life man who took care of us all, gave amazing hugs and backrubs, baked and decorated cakes for every special occasion, and would drive across the state help his daughter with household repairs. He died suddenly, just as he would have wished, after a sunny afternoon out on his boat, and is currently experiencing new life in Heaven with his personal Savior, Jesus Christ.

Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lee Anne (Hoffman) Ishler; son Ed (Cresta) Ishler; daughter Tania (Glenn) Cox; grandchildren Alexis, Abby, Caleb William, Chloe and Jessa Cox; sisters Cynthia Ishler, Susan (Bob) Runkle and Loretta (Denny) Meyer.
