William F. Crayne, Jr.

October 6, 1933 — March 7, 2016

William F. "Bill" Crayne, Jr., age 82, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Monday, March 7, 2016 at Ebeid Hospice Residence, Sylvania. He was born on October 6, 1933 to William Sr. and Iva (Desgrange) Crayne in Toledo.

Settling in Toledo, Bill graduated from Whitmer High School in 1951. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann (Ritzenthaler) on June 27, 1953 and the couple had 5 children.

Bill enjoyed being active in many things. An Eagle Scout himself, he was a Boy Scout Leader and had a love and talent for football. He played center for the Toledo All Stars and served as GM for the Toledo Tornadoes in the 1960's. In the 1970's Bill enjoyed coaching in the Washington Jr. Football League as area head coach and later commissioner.

Bill worked for and ran Crayne Brass Foundry and proudly donated the plaque for Frank Erme Field at the library on Harvest Lane and sponsoring various baseball and softball teams. He closed the business in 2001 and continued working side jobs at S&D coffee, delivering phone books and delivering flowers for Bartz Viviano on holidays.

Family and friends were always invited to go "Up North" to the beloved cabin in the woods in Rose City, MI. Nothing gave Bill and Barb more pleasure than to see them all enjoying themselves riding ATV's, snowmobiles or just relaxing. Many friends to this day will start a conversation with their fond memories of those trips.

Bill was known for his generous spirit, easy to talk to ways and his awesome sense of humor. Lovingly called "ornery" he could dish it out as well as he could take it. Bill was a devoted husband and father all of his years and was an avid fan of the Michigan Wolverines.

Bill left to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara; children, Carol (Dennis) Homer, Linda "Ace", Diane (Mark) Uscilowski, William, III, and Donna (Michael) Watson; grandchildren, Steven Homer, Kayla, Cassidy and Lexi Uscilowski; sister, Barbara (Craig) Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive guests on Thursday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
