William Emery, age 84, died on July 10 of complications from a stroke. He was born in Loveland, Ohio to Marion and Jessie Emery. After graduating from Loveland High School, Bill and his family moved to Sylvania, Ohio, where he attended the University of Toledo. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1943 and spent four years of service during WWII. For the first two years Bill was in the Mounted Beach Patrol guarding the east coast. He then spent 1 ½ years serving at a secret loran base in the Aleutian Islands. Upon returning home from the service, Bill completed his college degree in Business Administration and began his career in the trucking industry. He ended his business service as a top salesman for Matlack truck line, earning many sales awards.
Bill started riding horses at the age of 4, and was involved with them all of his life. He married Jane Cameron in 1948, and together Bill and Jane raised, trained and showed American Saddlebred horses, winning many blue ribbons and trophies. Bill ended his show career with a champion gaited mare, A Worthy Penny, when he was 80 years old, a remarkable achievement. He remained involved in raising and training exceptional colts the remainder of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; sons, William L. and Robert M.; sisters-in-law, Alma (John) Roper; Ann (Ned) Braunschweiger and their families.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio, the congregation of Bethany Community Fellowship church, and our family friends for their kindness and support.
