Wesley C. DeBord, age 79 of Sylvania, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Toledo Hospital. He was born July 8, 1931 to Silas and Velma (Williams) DeBord in Port Huron, Michigan. Wesley graduated from Burnham High School, Class of 1941. He was a very talented basketball player, having played varsity high school basketball while he was a freshman. Wesley married Sylvia M. (Fletcher) DeBord on September 22, 1951 in Angola, Indiana and they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. He retired from Dana Corporation after nearly 30 years of service as a Supervisor. Wesley was a current member of Westgate Chapel, where he was also involved with special groups within the church and he was a Chaplain for Transport for Christ. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Sylvia; children, Ron (Gudrun) Lucas, Doug (Sue) DeBord, Gregory DeBord, Cheryl Marino and Scott (Kathy) DeBord; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marceil Savage, Barbara Horner and Ina DeBord and special friends through the years, Barb (Leo) Schnee and Richard (Joyce) Abdo. Preceding him in death were his parents and four brothers and four sisters.
The family will receive guests Friday from 2:00 p.m. – 8 :00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Westgate Chapel, 2500 Wilford Drive in Toledo, where the family will receive guests for a half-hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
