Martha P. Werner

Martha P. Werner, age 84 of Toledo passed away Tuesday April 15, 2003 in Lake Park. She was born October 11, 1918 to Franklin and Mary Louise (Patterson) Schneider in Williamsport, PA. Martha was raised in Toledo and graduated from Point Place High School. She then went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts from the University of Toledo. Her fullness of life lead her from being a model to an Executive Secretary to the President of LaSalles and then treasurer of Lamsons to an Executive Secretary at Willys Overland. She was a member of the Eastern Star and also an active member of Reformation Lutheran Church for 43 years. During this time she served on council, sang in the choir, played handbells and taught Sunday School. Her love for the game of bowling and her writing talents took her to many places including the likes of, charter member of NWBW and BWBW. She wrote many articles for the Toledo Blade along with the sports writer Tom Bolger. Martha won many local and national awards for her articles about the game of bowling. She was a former President of the Toledo Women's Bowling Association for 6 years and is now a life member. Martha was head scorekeeper for the Pro Bowlers Tour for over 25 years. Martha was the oldest person to win the TWBA Singles Title at the age of 78. She was a member of the Toledo Blade Queens. She also attended many city, state and national conventions. The second greatest joy of Martha's life after her family was her love of the Arts. She was a skilled artesian in copper enamels, acrylics, oils, watercolors and glass cutting. She was a member of the Toledo Artists Club, NW Ohio Watercolor Society and the Toledo Womens Art League. Martha was also an art teacher for many years, most recently at the Eleanor Kahle Senior Center. She together with Judge John Potter co-founded the Downtown Toledo Rose Garden Art Show, which later became known as the Crosby Garden Arts Festival.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her loving husbands; Richard, and Robert, son; Johnnie and brothers; Frank, Bill and Herman Schneider. She is survived by her daughter; Patti "O" Olszewski, adopted daughter; Leslee Pryor, grandchildren; Sarah (Trevor), Hyter and Jennifer Smith, adopted granddaughter; Ryanne Jaworski, great grandson; Hunter Smith, in-laws; Jim (Joyce) Werner, Jane Werner, Sue Deuble, Margaret Schneider, Carol Schneider, Keith and Thelma Werner, Natalie Werner and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and special son-in-law; Bob Olszewski.

The family will receive guests Thursday and Friday from 2-8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) and Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Reformation Lutheran Church, 4543 Douglas Rd. Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Officiating will be Rev. Roger Giese. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the church General Fund.

The family would would like to extend special thanks to all who gave care and support especially Dr. Shirley Bodi and "the family" of WW Knight, Lake Park Caregivers; Lynn, Charisse, Amber and Sandy, to the Hospice Caregivers; Eva, Mary, Jill, and Nancy.
