Warren D. Whelan, 86, of Lambertville, Michigan passed away on February 7, 2016 at Flower Hospital in Sylvania. He was born April 28, 1929 and attended Macomber Vocational High School. Warren was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was wounded in battle and married Kazuko Naito of Japan after the war. Warren worked in Toledo at Doehler-Jarvis, Nazar Rubber Company, Champion, and he retired from Baron Steel Company after 30+ years. He was the son of Monroe County Justice of the Peace, Martin J. Whelan of Bedford Township, and Bernice (Witcher) Whelan. Warren enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, playing the harmonica, and was a lover of animals.
Warren is survived by daughter, Kathy (Robert) Gehring; sons, Michael and John Whelan; and three grandchildren, James Cadaret, Austen and Grace Whelan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Kazuko; and brothers, Martin and James Whelan.
The family will receive guests on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Road, Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Erie, MI.
