Warren N. Barnes

February 1, 1939 — April 4, 2021

Warren Nicholas Barnes, known as Grampee to his family, age 82, passed away on Easter Sunday morning April 4, 2021. He was born in Toledo on February 1, 1939 to the late Ethel and George Barnes. Warren graduated from Woodward High School in 1958. After graduation, he joined the United States Army, was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky and later received an honorable discharge. Warren worked at Art Mosiac Tile for 10 years then began a 25 year career with Jeep in 1973 where he held various management positions; Foreman, Supervisor, Superintendent, and Industrial Engineer. After retirement, he was hired as Corporate Trainer for Chrysler traveling to Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela. Warren also worked for other Jeep/Chrysler suppliers: FX Coughlin, and TDS making many lasting relationships with his co-workers, who he always referred to as friends.

Throughout most his life, Warren worked extra jobs but his favorite was being a bartender at Yours and Ours Night Club. He knew everyone's name, their favorite drink and his quick wit and humor would make everyone smile no matter what their worries of the day might have been. While working at Yours & Ours, Warren coached their softball team. Each game, whether they won or lost, would end in a celebration back at Yours & Ours with the team, their wives and children.

Warren deeply loved his family. He attended every sporting event, celebrated every birthday, graduation and enjoyed many summer family vacations with them at his favorite resort in St. Petersburg, Florida. Warren loved the Florida sunsets, walking the beach, collecting shells then giving shells away to people that he met throughout his life. His generosity and concern for others was one of his many wonderful traits. Warren enjoyed meeting people, truly listened to what others had to say and would always lend a hand to someone in need. Throughout his life, Warren always put others first and worked long beyond retirement age to make sure his family was taken care of.

Warren loved race cars, especially Corvettes. As a young man, he won many races, medals and trophies for his ability to handle speed. Warren was a member of the Corvette Club, Oak Park Gang, Varsity T Club, Northwood VFW Post, Commodore Club, and a 30 year member of the Historical Toledo Club.

Watching sports was another favorite pastime of Warren. He loved college football, Saturday game days and was a huge fan of Ohio State, who he called his "Buckeyes".

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother, Richard Barnes; along with his best friend and companion, Jakey, a Shih Tzu; who for 13 years he loved and cared for.

Warren is survived by his wife Jacqueline, who he married at St. Adalbert's Church in 1967 and recently celebrated 53 years of marriage. Also surviving are his daughter, Dr. Julie Jarvis; prior son-in-law; Dr. Blair Jarvis; daughter, Jennifer Toby; son-in-law, Bernie Toby; prior son-in-law, Bret Sullins; grandchildren, Charley Sullins, Jack Sullins, Cadance Toby, Gage Jarvis, and Raven Jarvis; brother-in-law, Robert (Kathy) Przybysz; and many nieces and nephews.
