Warren A. Hughes, age 80, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, May 29th, 2010 at the home of his daughter. He was born February 11th, 1930 to William and Alverda (Campbell) Hughes in Toledo, Ohio. Warren was employed with the City of Toledo for 30 years retiring in 1988. At the age of 16 Warren became a Merchant Marine and later went on to join the U.S. Navy, serving his country proudly on the USS Fitch, stationed in Charleston, SC. He was a member and Past Master twice for the Masonic Fort Industry Lodge #144. Warren and his late wife, Dolores enjoyed traveling on their motorcycles. They spent one summer riding to California on their bikes with their sons, John and Hank. As time went on Warren and Dolores turned in their motorcycles for a motor-home and continued their travels, spending winters in Arcadia, Florida at Peace River Campground and summers in Toledo at their daughter's home. Warren also enjoyed boating and fishing with his son Rick, as well as spending time with his family and friends and his faithful canine companion, "Shaggy".
In addition to his parents, Warren was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Dolores B. (Taylor) Hughes and brothers, William, James and Andrew Hughes and sister, Delpha Houlihan. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn (Joe Barton) Davis; sons, Rick, John and Howard Hughes; grandchildren, Heather (James) Thatcher, William (Becci) Davis and Brent (Samantha) Davis; great grandchildren, MaRissa, Megan and James Jr., Thatcher and Benjamin and Bailey Davis; brothers, Larry and Joseph Hughes and sister, Genevieve (Robert) Szczublewski and many nieces and nephews, especially David and George who enjoyed visits and bike rides with their uncle.
The family will receive guests Wednesday from 2-8:00 pm. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Masonic Services in the evening. Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to Senior Independent Hospice.
