Walter R. Baldwin, age 94, of Lambertville, formerly of Toledo, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Aspen Grove Assisted Living Facility. He was born on February 2, 1920 to Vining and Hattie (Beecher) Baldwin in Toledo. He was a 1938 graduate of Libbey High School. Walter was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving his country proudly during WWII. One year after Pearl Harbor, he was used by The Toledo Blade as the face of Johnny Toledo in a pictorial layout of how the war affected Toledoans. He was subsequently deployed to Burma and India.
Walter worked as an accountant throughout his career. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Conn-Weissenberger Post #587 and the CB/VA – Veterans of China. Walter was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church, the University of Toledo Alumni Association and the Flower Hospital Guild. He was an avid fan of the Toledo Mud Hens and University of Toledo Women's Basketball. Walter enjoyed the time spent with his family and friends, who will all deeply miss him.
Walter is survived by his children, Dorothy Marsh, Stanley Baldwin and David (Sharon) Baldwin; grandchildren, Scott (Sherri) and Kyle (Kim) Marsh and Jennifer and Gregory Baldwin; great-grandchildren, Kenzie and Scott Marsh; brother, Carl Baldwin; and longtime friend and companion, Jeanne Hartman and her children Jerilyn Rhodes and Richard Hartman and their families.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
