Wally "Buss" Smith, age 89, of Toledo, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 12, 1926 to Carl and Delphine Smith in Toledo. Wally was a graduate of Scott High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy enlisting at the age of 19, serving in the Korean War. Wally worked for United Fabric for 35 years before retiring in 1991. He loved the Detroit Red Wings and woodworking. Wally also enjoyed going to Tim Horton's and Rudy's Hot Dog on Sylvania Ave. with friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Connell; brother, Carlton Smith, Jr.; special uncle and aunt, Bill and Daisy Pugh; and step-daughter, Linda Hayes. Wally is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Rhonda Smith; daughters, Sue Johnson and Becky (Rick) Puffenberger; step-daughters, Laurie (Jay) Scata and Cassie Cancelliere; grandchildren, Mike (Kathryn), Katie (Rob) and Eric (Laura); and 5 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
