Walter A. Gilliland

Walter A. Gilliland, age 88, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Lake Park Comfort Care. He was born on September 14, 1920 to Pearl and Areatha (Kerr) Gilliland in Forest, Ohio. Walter was employed with the Ford Motor Company in Trenton, MI for over 15 years until retiring in 1984. He was a huge fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and also loved gardening. Walter often enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella M. Gilliland, brothers, Stanley and Acel Gilliland and sister, Virginia Emmons. Walter is survived by his daughters, Virginia (Joe) Stewart and Brenda Howell; son, Ronald "Donnie" (Glenn Ellen) Howell; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Darrel, Ron (Flora) and Wilbur Gilliland; sister, Idella Whitmore; and his cockatiel, Pretty Boy.

The family will receive guests on Sunday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
