Mrs. Virginia A. Tooman, age 82, went to be with our heavenly Father, on July 19th, 2005 in the peaceful and comforting atmosphere at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Virginia was born on August 12, 1922, to Walter and Pearl Riker in Toledo, Ohio. After marrying the love of her life, Harold C. Tooman, in October of 1940 she became the proud mother of 2 sons, George and Harold, Jr.
Throughout her years as a homemaker Virginia sold Avon and took care of other children in the neighborhood. When her husband became a troop leader for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, she became a den mother. She worked a few different jobs during that time but nothing was ever more important to her than her family.
In her spare time, Virginia loved to cook, bake, read and crochet. No one could ever cook a better meal or bake a better pie or cookie. She was amazing in the kitchen. Also Virginia could crochet anything. Everyone always raved about her beautiful afghans and blankets.
Harold and Virginia celebrated 44 years of a wonderful marriage together before he preceded her in death in 1985. Also preceding her in death were her parents; son, George W. Tooman; sister, Margie and great granddaughter, Kaitlyn M. Tooman. Virginia is lovingly survived by her son, Harold C. Tooman, Jr.; grandchildren, Dawn M. Tooman (devoted granddaughter and caregiver for the last few years.); Brian (Jill) Tooman; Capt. Christopher Tooman, U.S.A.F.; Theresa (Dave) Sibberson and Aaron Tooman; great grandchildren, Jamie Forbush; Alan and Nathan Tooman; Kaitlyn Tooman and Lindsey Sibberson; sister, Sandra Birner; brother, Bud Riker; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Also surviving are special friends, Kathy and Roland Christie, their daughter, Amy; Mary Ann and Steve Suto; Linda Forbush and former wonderful daughter-in-law, Dee Stall,
Many special thanks to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for making Virginia's last days so restful and free from pain. All of you are truly God's people doing God's work. There are no words to express our deep gratitude for you.
Also a special thanks to the staff of Kingston Care Center for the magnificent care she received before going into Hospice.
Family and friends are invited to join together Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Forest Cemetery, 1704 Mulberry St., Toledo to celebrate Virginia's life.
