Virginia M. Pickard, age 87, of Toledo, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Regency Hospital. She was born on April 19, 1921 to Robert and Georgian (Agsten) Stannard in Toledo. Virginia was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, sewing and loved gardening; her favorite flower was the Iris. She was a generous and loving woman also very meticulous and organized in anything she did. Virginia loved to bake and was known as the "Cookie Lady" around the neighborhood. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin "Pete" Pickard, sister, Doris Henry, brother-in-law, Merle "Nick" Curtis, aunt, Grace Garwood and son-in-law, Tim Hall. Virginia is survived by her children, Michael (Jean) Pickard, Sharyl Hall, Robert Pickard, Darrell (Robin) Pickard and Scott (Lisa) Pickard; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Curtis; brother, Robert Stannard, Jr.; sister-in-law, Alda Pickard; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Sunday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will take place Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
