Vincent A. "Vince" Thompson, age 91, of Toledo, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Lake Park Comfort Care where he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 19, 1922 to Harrison and Rachel Rose (Levine) Thompson. On July 14, 1946 he married Johanna M. (Bluni) Thompson in Brooklyn, N.Y. Vince proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from the railroad after 43 years having worked for various rail companies such as N.Y.C, Penn Central and Conrail. In his spare time he enjoyed reading and supporting the Toledo Public Library; Big Band music, especially Jimmy Dorsey and Helen O'Connell and traveling the world, experiencing different cultures with his wife. One of his most favorite past times was dancing with his lovely wife, Johanna. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins.
He attended Webster , St. Vincent de Paul and Woodward High School. Vince was a lifelong member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and later St. Hedwig Parish. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and they will forever miss his great sense of humor.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 67 years, Johanna; children, Rochelle Liberios, Vincent H. (Linda) Thompson, Garry Thompson, Larry (Karen) Thompson, Vanessa Hollabaugh (David Shoffer), Claudette (Anthony) Cicora, Andrew (Kathy) Thompson, Jennifer Thompson (Bradley Fofrich) and Carmela (Drew) Roth; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by great-grandson, John Goldsmith.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Final Prayers will begin in the funeral home on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Christ the King Parish at 10:00 a.m., 4100 Harvest Lane. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
