Emblem

Verlin Sweatt, went home to be with his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Verlin was born in Oliver Springs, Tennessee, to the late Swann and Lillie (Petree) Sweatt.

A man of faith, Verlin and his wife, Barbara, have attended Emmanuel Baptist Church for about 40 years, where they have met wonderful people.

Verlin dedicated an impressive 37 years of his life to General Motors Powertrain. Verlin exemplified the spirit of adventure both personally and through his military service. He proudly served in the Army, during the Vietnam War, from 1963 until 1969, as a member of the 11th Airborne Division.

An active man, Verlin loved running, biking, boxing, fishing and going to the gym, finding joy in maintaining his health and fitness. Family was of utmost importance to Verlin, and his fond memories of adventures with his wife. Together, they enjoyed the warmth of New Smyrna, Florida, as snowbirds, where they created lasting memories under the sun and with his niece, Deb and her husband, Mike.

One particularly special memory was their trip to Montana, with their son, Shane, and daughter-in-law, LeeAnn. Those moments reminded him of the importance of family and the joy of sharing experiences with loved ones.

As we remember Verlin, we honor a devoted family man, a committed worker, and a brave soldier. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched, through the stories shared and the memories created, shaping the legacy of love that will continue for years to come.

Those left to forever cherish his memory are his loving wife, Barbara Sweatt; son, Shane and LeeAnn Sweatt; daughter, Penny Sweatt; brother, Buddy and Linda; sisters, Novella and Wilma; brother-in-law, David; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Cathy and Jim, TJ and Betty.

The family would like to thank all of their friends (family) at IMV and Minorca for their continued love and support.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Leon and sisters, Hattie and Nadene.
