Vera L. (Weirich) Stoffel, age 97, a longtime resident of Toledo and a current resident of Oak Leaf Village, Sylvania, passed away Friday, May 14th, 2010 at Flower Hospital. She was born December 8th, 1912 to Frank and Alma (Miller) Blanchard in Defiance, Ohio. Vera was a graduate of Defiance High School Class of 1930 and married Allison Weirich in 1934. She went on to nursing school and began her career as a Registered Nurse at the former Maumee Valley Hospital. Vera was promoted to Head Nurse with the hospital and continued her work there for more than 25 years retiring in 1968. Vera married Harley "Jack" Stoffel in October of 1967 and enjoyed traveling with him until his death in 1995. She was a member of Epworth United Church. Vera also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening in her yard and spending time with her loving family. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her strong will and independence.
In addition to her parents and husband, Harley "Jack" Stoffel, Vera was preceded in death by her brothers, Howard and Orland Blanchard and sisters, Jessie Blanchard; Florence Wolf; Caroline Folk Hathaway and Donelda Blanchard and stepson, Gary Stoffel. Vera is survived by her son, Edward A. "Bud" (Myra) Weirich; daughter, N. Karen Shinaver; stepdaughters, Carol Stoffel and Sharon (Ralph) Kelley; sister, Dortha Wolf; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive guests Tuesday from 12-5:00 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church, 3077 Valleyview Dr. at Central Ave. with Funeral Services beginning at 5:00 p.m.
