Velva Jane Durdel

Velva J. "Val" Durdel, age 92, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2012 at West Toledo Healthcare and Rehab. She was born January 24, 1920 to Clifford and Hazel (Rowe) Lewis. Val married Walter E. Durdel on April 27, 1946; they shared 53 wonderful years together. Val was dedicated to taking care of her family and she often put their needs before her own. She will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; step-son, Merlin Durdel; sister, Ethel (William) Gallagher; two brothers, Chester (Ginny) and Arnold (Ruth). She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Bill) Nelson; sons, Douglas (Debbie) and Elgin (Annette); four step-children, Emerson (Loretta), Roger (Donna), Lila (Bob) Garber and Jan (Al) Grant; six grandchildren, Douglas, Michelle, Jason, Sara, Adam and Michelle; six great-grandchildren, Dominic, Logan, Leah, Olivia, Karina and Kevin; many step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

The family will receive guests Friday from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
