Velva Jo Hensley

Velva Jo Hensley, of Bean Station, Tennessee, formerly of Toledo, Ohio, was born on January 11, 1940, in Phelps, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Charlie and Marie Hunt. She entered into her peaceful rest on Sunday night, July 18, 2021, while surrounded by beloved family and friends. Velva Jo Hensley was 81 years old. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hensley; son, Michael Hensley; and brother, Ron Hunt.

Velva Jo or more affectionately known as Jo, was of the Apostolic faith. Her life revolved around church and serving others. She often reminisced of her years spent in the Phelps, Kentucky church and community. After moving to Ohio, she became invested in the First Apostolic Church of Toledo, Ohio. She worked diligently in various departments throughout her tenure at FAC. After working many years of dedicated employment at FAC, she retired, but then focused her energy on new work. She moved to Bean Station, Tennessee and began serving faithfully in Newport First Apostolic Church. Jo, was meticulous and took great pride in all she set out to do for the Kingdom of God.

Those that survive Jo include her siblings: sister, Judy Holder of Franklin, North Carolina; brother, Click Hunt and his wife, Brenda of Lake Wales, Florida; sister-in-law, Jennie Hunt of Bean Station, Tennessee; sons, Lawrence Hunt and his wife, Erica of Toledo, Ohio, Chuck Hunt and his wife, Vickie of Phelps, Kentucky, TJ Hunt and his wife Cheryl of Mobile, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Sheila Hensley of Washington DC; grandchildren, Courtney Sacramona and her husband, DJ of Alabama, Amber Sykes and her husband, Reggie of North Carolina, Charlie Hunt and his wife, Audrey of Kentucky, Micah Hensley and his wife Marisa of Georgia, Mariah Hensley of Washington DC; and several great grandchildren. Jo, is also survived by a host of other loved ones, family and friends who will keep her memory close.

Family and friends may gather at the Apostolic Church of Toledo, Ohio, 5701 W Sylvania Ave, Toledo, Ohio 43623, on Monday, July 26, 2021, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at 1:00 pm, at the church, with Rev. Mark Jordan officiating. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in Toledo. A memorial service will be held on August 1, 2021, at 1:30 pm, at Newport Apostolic Church of Newport, Tennessee, with Rev. Steve Thornbury officiating.
