It is with heavy hearts that we gather to honor the life of Vederia "Debbie" Lynn Briggs, who passed away on April 24, 2025, in her beloved Toledo, Ohio. Born on April 15, 1958, Debbie graced this world with her quiet sweetness and unwavering love for family and friends. As we reflect on her life, we remember a devoted and hard-working woman who dedicated herself to her family, her community, and her faith.
Debbie graduated from Scott High School in 1977, and from that point on, she embarked on a journey marked by diligence and care. She dedicated herself to her career, proudly serving at Frisch's Big Boy since 1978 and contributing her talents at Midwest Tape for eight years. Debbie often took on two jobs to ensure that her family was well-supported, embodying the spirit of sacrifice and strength that defined her character.
Those fortunate enough to know Debbie experienced her loving and giving personality. She had a unique gift for putting babies to sleep and a heart that welcomed animals into her life. She cared for her mother, Ernestine Adger, with unwavering devotion, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her compassion extended not only to her family but also to the community she cherished. Debbie's gentle nature and encouraging words remained unwavering; she never had a bad thing to say about anyone.
Her sense of joy was palpable when surrounded by the laughter of her grandchildren, Trayshaun Dixon, Nadia Dixon, and Brielle McCoy. She took delight in watching and playing basketball with neighborhood kids, firmly believing in the power of connection through shared moments. Television shows and computer games brought her great joy, as did the meals shared around the family table. Debbie was known for her love of food and the happiness that came from spending time with her loved ones.
Debbie's spiritual journey began at an early age when she gave her life to God and was baptized at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Her strong faith served as a guiding light in her life, influencing all those who looked up to her as a mother figure. She was always there for her family and friends, offering support and love, even during her own times of struggle.
Debbie will be deeply missed by her family, which includes her daughter Derrick'ka McCoy and son-in-law Terry, her brothers Kelvin Tyler Sr., Darrell Briggs, and Leon Briggs, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, including Donna Boles and her husband Deonyale, Tameka Briggs, Tionna Clark and her husband Jeremy, Bryeisha Richardson, Kerry Briggs Jr., Kelvin Tyler Jr., and many other extended family and close friends.
As we celebrate Debbie's life, we also remember those who have passed before her, including her father Starr Briggs, her brother Kerry Briggs Sr., and her sister Demetia Richardson. Their memories will forever be intertwined with Debbie's, as she leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire those who remain.
Debbie was truly a beautiful soul, and her kindness and grace left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. Let us cherish our memories of her, as we gather to pay our respects.
