Valerie M. VanBrussel, age 50 of Bellevue, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, January 18th, 2006 in the ICU at Wood County Hospital, where she had been a patient for several weeks. She was born June 7th, 1955 to Rev. James R. and Dorothy M. (Shufelt) VanBrussel in Toledo. Valerie received her degree in Nursing and went on to practice in several area hospitals, most recently Providence Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio. She was also involved in teaching nursing skills at the Sandusky Schools Adult Education Program. Valerie was a talented artist enjoying painting in water colors, crafting and sewing designer fashions. Another talent Valerie developed through adulthood was singing with the Sweet Adeline's in quartets. She was also a director of a group for several years.
Valerie is survived by her loving parents, Rev. James and Dorothy VanBrussel; brother, Dirk (Jill) VanBrussel of Chicago, IL and devoted friend, Dianne Jones and her family as well as many dear friends.
The family will receive guests Saturday and Sunday from 2-8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) and Monday from 10-11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 2820 Alexis Rd. Funeral Services will begin Monday at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Marc Miller, Assistant to the Bishop, NWO Synod and Dr. Walter Lowry. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
The VanBrussel Family would like to thank the staff of Wood County Hospital ICU for the excellent care and loving support they provided to Valerie, especially Drs. Lane and Atwell.
