Ursula Karnikowski, 96, passed away on January 3, 2014. She was born on March 22, 1917 to the late Catherine and Stanley Borkowski in Toledo, Ohio.
Ursula owned and operated the popular Wood's Inn restaurant in Oregon, Ohio with her immediate family, closing it in 1973. She always enjoyed being involved in the Food Industry by working in restaurants or through catering. Ursula loved cooking for others, bowling and playing cards. She also worked for Bunting Brass. Ursula was an active member of St. Hedwig and St. Adalbert Catholic Churches.
In addition to her parents, Ursula was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; children, Dennis Karnikowski and Kathryn "Penny" DeYoung; brothers, Clem Borek and Stanley Borkowski; sisters, Charlotte Ledzianowski and Virginia Gerrard and grandson, Nicholas Karnikowski. She is survived by her sisters, Delores (Leonard) Bromer, Jayne (Bernard) Alesi; grandchildren, Daniel (Dawn) and Jason DeYoung, Dana (Ivan) Iliev and Matthew Karnikowski; great-grandchildren, Georgio, Ivan and Oscar Iliev and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 3-7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). The Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
