Tressie Matthews

Tressie Matthews, age 80, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. She was born to Renie and Ernie Howard on March 13, 1927 in Greenup, Kentucky. Tressie met the love of her life, William Matthews in Toledo, where they were married for 60 years. He cared for her health until the end. They were blessed with four children, Gloria Maupin of Toledo; Linda (James) Vanlerberg of Ottawa Lake, MI; Joyce (David) Falk of Toledo and William Darrell (Leigh) Matthews of Tulsa, OK; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandson.

Surviving are her husband, Bill; sisters, Evelyn (Joel) Thompson of Toledo and Joanne (Bob) Sandefur of West Palm Beach, FL; brothers, Ernie (Barbara) Howard, Jr. of Toledo and Phillip Howard of Greenup, KY.

She was devoted to her family; she cared for each of us with great love, generosity and prayer. She was faithful in serving God her entire life. She retired from Jeep after 27 years. Tressie loved to travel, sew, quilt, collect antiques and care for her dog Tiny. She was amazing grace.

Preceding her in death were her three brothers and three sisters and her great granddaughter, Starr.

The family will receive guests Thursday from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home. 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
