Thomas “Tom” Zapiecki, a man of many talents, passed away on June 6, 2024. He was a kind and generous father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved his family--especially the grandkids--and was a great friend to many.
Born in Toledo on November 29, 1936, he attended St. Teresa grade school, Central Catholic class of 1954 and studied mechanical engineering at the University of Toledo. Blessed with amazing mechanical skills and knowledge, his love of “hands on” working and cars led to his award-winning career as lead technician at Brondes Ford.
Along the way, he tuned many drag racing cars and owned a high performance engine-building shop. He was also a passionate bass tournament competitor for several years and in retirement, built and repaired golf clubs. He was a smart, dependable and loyal friend with dozens of friendships that lasted several decades—golfing buddies and poker groups.
He is survived by his daughter Pamela (David) Rucki of Canal Fulton OH; son Thomas M. Zapiecki, sister Mary Sue (Gerald) Kobil; brother, Michael Zapiecki and Tom’s loving companion of twenty-plus years Rose Jankowski and her family. Grandchildren include Catherine Rucki of Cincinnati, Elizabeth Rucki of Columbus, Christy (Kevin) Rahrig, of Zanesville OH, Alissa Zapiecki of Springfield OH, Brian Zapiecki, Los Angeles; Trevor Zapiecki, Minneapolis, great grandchild Lauryn Rahrig and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents Edward J. and Margaret Zapiecki, his wife Annette (Biernacki) Zapiecki and daughter-in-law Karen B. Zapiecki.
The family would like to thank the staff of Otterbein in Monclova for their attentive care as well as Ashanti Hospice.
