Thomas W. "Tom" Gailer, Jr., age 83, of Toledo, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 6, 2015 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. He was born on September 5, 1931 to Thomas Sr. and Magdalena (Hofmeister) Gailer in Toledo. Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving his country proudly during the Korean War; where he was also a member of the Drum and Bugle Corp. while serving. Tom was a longtime member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Kerns, Caroline Poturalski, Catherine Ringenbach and Virginia Gailer. Tom is survived by his loving wife of almost 61 years, Marlene Gailer; daughter, Terri Gailer; son, Tom, III (Brad Felgner) Gailer; cousins, Dick (Barb), Al (Linda) and Bob (Sue) Hofmeister; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Our family would like to thank Dr. James North, Dr. Timothy Kasunic and all of the Toledo Clinic physicians and staff for their compassionate care during Tom's illness. We also want to thank the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio, especially Jaclyn, who gave him special care during his final hours.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with a Rosary being led by Denise Pacynski, Tom's Rosary partner, at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. A Prayer Service will begin Friday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4555 North Haven Ave., Toledo 43612. Officiating will be Fr. Francis J. Speier. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider St. Catherine of Siena, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the Bavarian Sports Club.
