Thomas M. Sauerwein, Sr.

Thomas (Tom) M. Sauerwein Sr., age 73, of Toledo, OH passed away peacefully February 13, 2023 in Joliet, Illinois. He was born April 13, 1949 in Toledo OH, to William Sauerwein and Lois (Meinen) Wagner.
Tom was a US Navy veteran, he completed basic training in Great Lakes Illinois and finished his Navy career in Philadelphia. Tom was a retiree of Libbey-Owens-Ford (LOF) in Rossford. Tom had an adventurous and loving spirit. In his younger years he loved to ride motorcycles until his accident that caused him to lose his arm. Even with the accident Tom was always in good spirits and never let any obstacle bring him down. After the accident Tom would be seen playing softball, bowling or taking chances on the racetrack. He owned his own TV repair shop before fully retiring. Tom loved his family and would do anything for them. He liked to work on cars and do projects around the house. He enjoyed getting his kids to help him with whatever he was working on. He was known as the family handy man and could fix anything that he put his mind to. He was the type of person to give you the shirt off his back.
Tom would often take his family bowling, camping, fishing and/or to Cedar Point. Tom loved the Cedar Point Arcade. He loved to travel and enjoy what adventures may come. He was also passionate about the Detroit Tigers, Lions, and watching his children/grandchildren play sports. Tom enjoyed going to Breakfast at Glendale Garden Café, eating French Toast and drinking multiple cups of coffee. He especially enjoyed conversations with the staff as they made him feel like the restaurant was his second home. In Tom's final days he enjoyed watching Marvel movies out of order which made him laugh.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was also preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia (Laffartha) Sauerwein. He is survived by his children, Herbert (Julie) Sauerwein, Amanda (James) Shabnow, Timothy (Tamra) Sauerwein, Thomas (Kim) Sauerwein, Jr. and Todd (Amber) Sauerwein. Grandchildren: Travis Sauerwein, Hunter Sauerwein, Alisa Sauerwein, Cheyenne Sauerwein, Faith Sauerwein, Timothy Jr. Sauerwein, Ashlee (Richard) Sackrey, Alex Sauerwein, Miranda (Taylor) Shrieber Mccan, Cashton Sauerwein, Tank and Bella Shabnow. Great Grandchildren: Arcadia, Jessica, Amara and Victoria. Brothers: George Sauerwein, William (Mary) Sauerwein, and Richard (Juanita) Sauerwein.
The family will receive guests, Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Newcomer - SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
