Thomas C. Metcalf
Thomas Coburn Metcalf, age 69, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Thursday May 25, 2017. He was born December 5, 1947 to Coburn and Modelle Metcalf. A bright student and lover of academia he graduated from Rodgers High School in 1965. After attending Purdue University, in 1967 Tom went on to serve in the US Navy during the Vietnam War as a QM3 Navigator. During his time on active duty he sailed on the USS Mullinix DD944 destroyer and the USS Tidewater AD 31. He was released from active duty in April 1970.
Tom lived in West Palm Beach, Florida for a short time before moving back to the area in 1973, to begin working at Jones & Henry Engineers in Toledo. He then graduated from the University of Toledo in 1981 with a degree in Civil engineering. He went on to become a partner with Jones & Henry.
Throughout his life he enjoyed hobbies such as running, reading and do-it-yourself projects around the house. He always had a strong passion for politics and as well as sports, namely his cherished Detroit Red Wings. Tom was a hardworking loving man who was dedicated to his family and professed his faith in Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his loving caretaker and wife of 27 years Janice. He was extremely proud of and had great love for his five children, Brad (Janis) Rutherford, Erin (Rob) Fitzgerald, Jake (Amanda) Metcalf, Amanda (Nathan) Bradish and Sara Metcalf; grandchildren, Brooke, Brynn, Brady and Coburn; sisters, Beverly (Jim) Nelson and Joanne (Larry) Powell.
Arrangements have been made with Newcomer Funeral Home 4150 Laskey Rd Toledo, Ohio 43623 where family will receive friends from 3-5:00 p.m. Thursday June 22, 2017 with a memorial service beginning at 5:00 p.m.
