The Lord received into His arms Tom on Thanksgiving evening, November 28th, 2013.
Tom was born to Katherine Tafelski Fisher on May 7, 1945 (D-Day). He was adopted by John and Mary Nowak. He attended grade school at St. Vincent de Paul and went on to graduate from St. Francis de Sales H.S. class of '63, then graduated from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota and from the Trust School of Chicago. He served his beloved country in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973, was honorable discharged with the grade of OS2. Tom started his banking career at Toledo Trust in February 1974 and retired from Key Bank in 2001. He then went on to work for Signature Bank.
During his lifetime, Tom was involved with Gesu Financial Comity, served on the Board of Habitat for Humanity, helped building houses. He was a proud Eagle Scout.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 40 years, Jacqueline; daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Georg Hasselmann; grandchildren, Gregory and Alexander Hasselmann; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Jim Zukowiev; nephew, Eric; niece, Renee; and his beloved westie, Brigitte.
A Private Celebration of his life was held at Christ the King Catholic Church with Mass of Resurrection celebrated by Father R. Olszewski, followed by the playing of taps.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Mercy St. Anne, who took great care of Tom, during his last week of life.
