Thomas "Tiger Tom" Inman
Thomas J. "Tiger Tom" Inman, age 79 of Toledo passed away Saturday, January 1, 2005 at Northwest Ohio Hospice, Toledo. He was born August 15, 1925 to Thomas and Florence (Long) Inman in Toledo. Tom was a 1944 graduate of Waite High School and 1948 graduate of Bowling Green State University. Tom was employed with Toledo Public Schools for 41 years. Before retiring, he was assigned to Start High School and served as the Physical Education Teacher, Athletic Director for 23 years and the Girls Varsity Track Coach for 16 years. Tom played on 3 National Invitational Tournament Basketball Teams (1945-46-48). He was selected to the 1943-44 All Toledo, Ohio All City Basketball Team. He played Right Half Back on the undefeated 1943 Waite High School Football Team that claimed mythical State Championship. Tom was inducted into the Waite High School Hall of Fame in 1980. He was selected Bowling Green State University 1985 Varsity Club Coach of the Year. Tom earned 10 Varsity Letters at B.G.S.U., four each in basketball and baseball and two in football. He coached the Start Golden Girls Track Team taking them to a State Championship Class AAA in 1980. Tom was also the first football coach at Start High School in 1962. He was the City League Meet Director 1968-74 and the Co-Meet Director of the first Girls Toledo Blade Relays in 1972. Tom was the Co-Chairman for the 1969 Stadium Drive, which was later dedicated to him in 1989. Tom was also inducted into the Toledo City League Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990. After retiring, Tom enjoyed time golfing, swimming and following the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Helen (Dombrady) Inman; son, Tom (Luann) Inman and daughter, Laurie Inman; grandchildren, Kallie and Jenna; niece, Stephanie (Paul) Zylka and great nephews, Derek; Garret and Kyle.
The family will receive guests Thursday from 4-6:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Family Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). A Memorial Service will begin Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Paul Walberg.
