Thomas I. "Tom" Gearheart, Sr., age 62, of Toledo, passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. He was born on October 26, 1945 to Thomas and Mable (Perry) Gearheart in Charleston, West Virginia. Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country proudly during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Holland Post 646, Order of the Eastern Star, Zenobia Shrine and was a Zenobia Shrine Clown. Tom loved "clowning around" for the circus and was known as "Big Scooter" to many. He was also a 32 Degree Mason, Scottish Rite and member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, Barton Smith Lodge 613. Tom loved to cook, enjoyed woodworking and hunting and fishing. He loved his dogs and also loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren. Tom will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Vinson. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Norma Gearheart; children, Denice Gearheart, Thomas (Katrina) Gearheart, Jr., Steven Perry, James (Ann) Moody and Scott Gearheart; 13 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; sister, Donna Yates; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with American Legion Services at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will take place Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Fr. Earl Loffler. Interment will follow in Roth Cemetery, Monclova.
