Thomas "Tommy" Vernon Gunn, Sr., age 80, passed away Monday, February 6th, 2006 in his home in Sylvania Ohio. He was born September 17th, 1925 to Vernon and Mary (Thomas) Gunn in Toledo. Tom married Virginia "Ginny" on January 25th, 1947 at the age of 21. He served proudly with the U.S. Marine Corps in WWII and was stationed on the Island of Peleliu. Tom was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for over 50 years, attending faithfully every week. He has been an active member of the Sylvania Moose Lodge since 1991, where he acquired many close friendships. Tom was employed with Sealtest Milk for 20 years then sold insurance for Prudential and Indianapolis Life, where he was awarded "Man of the Year" and was also a member of the "Millionaires Round Table". Following his years in the insurance industry, Tom went on to become a top salesman at Charlie's Dodge, Maumee. He loved to cook and was the owner of A &W and Pizzano's Pizza in Delta, Ohio. When time allowed, Tom spent as much time as he could on the golf course and on numerous leagues throughout his life. He was a faithful and avid fan of the Pittsburg Steelers.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Virginia "Ginny" Gunn on December 19th, 2003 and grandchildren, Nicky and Todd. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children, Tom Gunn, Jr.; Cheri (Dennis) Marble; Chris Major and Deb (Rick) Sheamer; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
The family will receive guests Friday from 2-8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). A Rosary will be recited Friday evening. Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Sylvania. Entombment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
