Thomas Edward Kine, "Grandpa Tom" age 80, of Toledo, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Friday, October 29th, 2010 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born in Toledo to Otto Kine and Mary Morse. Thomas was a United States Army Veteran. He served in the Korean War, translating Morse code from a station in Germany. An avid supporter of the arts, Thomas enjoyed singing, play-acting and poetry. He began performing as a singer originally alongside Baldy Wetzell, one of the last vaudeville entertainers of his time. Among other places, Thomas sang at The Orchard Inn, Park Café, The Rooster Inn, Wolf's Gardens, The Ritz Supper Club and many local nursing home establishments. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, taking in classic cinema and listening to Frank Sinatra. Tom was employed with the Marleau Hercules Fence Company for several decades and volunteered as an usher at the Toledo Repertoire Theater.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas (Lizabeth) and Daniel (Vickey); grandchildren, Sara (Jacob) Bergstresser, Daniel (Kate) Kine, John Kine and Jimmy (Sara) Fogel, great granddaughter, Emma; brothers and sisters, Shirley Blessing, Marlene (Wes) Menter, Beverly Rock, Gail (George) Taber, Michael (Nadine) Morse, John (Jill) Morse, Sunday (Don) Miller and Iva Davis. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Jane "Sally" Kine.
The family will receive guests Tuesday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Amboy Cemetery, Metamora, OH.
