The world seems to be a smaller place. Thomas P. Dowling passed away after a brief illness on June 5th, 2018 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, OH. Born on May 23rd, 1943 in Toledo, OH to Thomas and Julia Dowling (Coyle). He grew up in South Toledo, attended Libby High School and served in the U.S. Army, in Germany during the Vietnam conflict.
Tom married the love of his life, Mary J Dowling (Ballard) on October 14th, 1967 and raised his family while working for the Solid Waste Department for the City of Toledo, retiring as Superintendent after 30 years. Having fallen in love with the country side, Tom and Mary moved to Portland, TN in 1999. Keeping true to his work ethic he went to work in TN, for another 15 years until Mary's death in 2014.
Tom will be remembered as the type of man other men strive to be. With a giant heart and quiet sense of humor, both of which became larger as he aged. There was never a doubt about the love of his family, his friendship, love of his dog; Goofy, and anything sports related.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Lynn Dowling; son, John Dowling and his wife, Debbie Baudino-Dowling; grandchildren, Abbigale and Riley Dowling, his sister Kay (Anthony, Jr) Barnes, many nieces and nephews and extended family that called him dad. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sisters, Judy Ignasiak and Mary Dowling-Hamdan.
Family will receive guests on Tuesday, July 24th 2018 from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. in Toledo.
The family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
