Thomas G. Dooley

Thomas G. Dooley, age 68, resident of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 22, 1953, in Camden, New Jersey, to the late George F. Dooley Jr. and Frances M. (Corsi) Dooley.

Tom is a 1971 high school graduate of Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He worked as a fingerprint clerk for the FBI before attending college at Florida State University, where he graduated with a degree in criminal justice. He later completed his Master's degree at Troy University in Troy, Alabama. Tom proudly served in the Navy as a Submarine Warfare Officer and helicopter pilot, flying the SH-60 Seahawk. He is a 20-year Navy Veteran, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander and Veteran of the Persian Gulf War. Following retirement, Tom completed 24 years as a commercial airline pilot for Carnival, Northwest, and Delta, allowing him to visit all 50 states and 57 countries. He retired from the airlines as a Delta Captain on the 737.

Tom was known for his love for Jesus Christ and enjoyed telling others about Him. He served at Hope Baptist Church, dedicating his time in youth ministries and teaching Sunday school. He always encouraged people to go further than they thought they could. Tom also enjoyed participating in Pilots for Kids, through which he was able to give gifts to children that were hospitalized over the holidays.

Tom enjoyed playing and watching ice hockey, baseball and football, finding new trails to bike with his wife, spending time at the shooting range, playing with his grandkids, and playing the piano. Tom was a family man and his biggest accomplishment and greatest joy was being a loving husband, father, "Kranpop" and "Pop Pop." He will forever be missed by all who knew him.

Those left to forever cherish his memory are; his loving wife Sandra Dooley, his bride of almost 38 years; his children, Ted and his wife Jess, Keely Dooley, Zack and his wife Mariah, grandchildren Jade, Alexia, Jackson and Titus; siblings; Claire (Dooley) Dillard; Mike and his wife Bonnie; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lisa and Stuart McKenzie. and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, George F. Dooley Jr. and Frances M. (Corsi) Dooley.

Family and friends may visit at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 3655 King Road, Toledo, Ohio, 43617, on Monday, May 2, 2022, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be at Hope Baptist Church, 6250 South Ave, Toledo, OH, 43615, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 10:00 am, with Pastor Jonathan Marshall officiating. Tom will be laid to rest at Toledo Memorial Park.
