Thomas H. Brock, Sr. of Toledo, Ohio passed away suddenly Sunday, August 27, 2017 at home. He was born February 6, 1943 to the late Mark Brock and Helen (Johnson) Brock in Toledo, Ohio. Thom was a graduate of Waite High School Class of 1961. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Woodville in East Toledo. He lived 34 years in San Bruno, California before returning to Toledo in 2008. While in San Bruno he worked many years for Farmers Insurance and went on to start his own insurance agency, followed by his own auto leasing company, Royal Stewart Leasing. Most recently he worked in sales for Empire Floors.
Thom loved life and people. He was a loving partner, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was an accomplished drummer beginning in the Waite band, and was in the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corp from its inception, after several years marching with the American Legion sponsored Golden Eagles. He was a Mason in the Rubicon lodge and played drums with the Zenobia Shrine Highlanders.
Thom loved having fun with his fiancé Jean, spending time with family and friends, tracing his Scottish Heritage and cheering his favorite teams, the Oakland Raiders and Arsenal football club. He spent many years coaching Thomas Brock, Jr.'s soccer teams in San Bruno, California, and traveling abroad for soccer tournaments.
Left to cherish Thoms' memory are his fiancé Cleona Jean (Gundlach), his son Thomas, Jr. (Amelia) and grandchildren Elliot and Samuel (Concord, New Hampshire), sisters Harriet Pitzen and Deborah(Larry) Brown, many nieces and nephews, loving friends the Gundlach family, and his fellow Shriners. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving stepfather Larry Spangler, wife Martha, and brother-in-law Kenneth Pitzen.
The family will be receiving guests Friday, September 1 from 5 to 7pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns, Toledo (419-381-1900), with a service by the Highlanders from 6 to 7pm. Funeral services will take place at noon on Saturday, September 2 at Newcomer. Inurnment will follow at Ottawa Hill Memorial Park.
