Thelma Gwendolyn Turvey

Thelma G. "Aunt Ummy" Turvey, age 96, of Toledo, passed away peacefully, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Alpine House. She was born on January 30, 1918 to Harry and Cousie (Baker) Turvey in Toledo. Thelma was a 1936 graduate of Scott High School and a 1940 graduate of The University of Toledo, where she played the cello. She worked at her father's business, Harry Turvey Florist for many years with her brother, Ken. Thelma was a lifetime member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She enjoyed the time spent with her nieces and nephews, especially her great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Turvey; and nephew, Steven Turvey. Thelma is survived by her nephews, Robert (Carol) and Thomas (Linda) Turvey; nieces, Rebecca Catri, Suzanne (Dennis) Hill; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive guests on Saturday from 3 – 5:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Memorial Services beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
