Suzanne F. (Herkimer) Tarjanyi, age 75, of Toledo, passed away, Monday, March 2, 2009 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 7th, 1933 to John and Fama (Fiser) Weisel in Monroe, Michigan. Suzanne was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, Monroe, Michigan Class of 1951 and went on to attend and graduate from the former St. Vincent School of Nursing. Sue married Carl P. Herkimer, MD in Monroe, Michigan in 1958, but later divorced. She then married William J. "Banjo" Tarjanyi in 1986 who passed away in 1993. She was employed with many of the area hospitals, including, Parkview, Flower, St. Vincent and Toledo Hospital through her more than 50 years of nursing. During this time she also served in private practice with several physicians and area families. Most recently, Sue worked with West Toledo Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center up until November of 2008 before her illness was discovered. Sue was devoted to her profession and was always happy to see former students she had taught and trained move up through the ranks. She was also a devoted mother and grandmother and she loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her wonderful sense of humor and zest for life. In Sue's life there were no strangers, just friends she had not yet met.
In addition to her husband, William J. "Banjo" Tarjanyi, Sue was preceded in death by her parents, John and Fama Weisel, siblings, Kumari White; Donald Eaton and Evelyn Cummings. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Kaczmarek of Tiffin, OH and Carl Herkimer, II of Toledo, OH; grandchildren, Jodi (David) Mills of Dearborn, MI; Kelly Kaczmarek of Bowling Green, OH and Carla Hites of Tiffin, OH; great grandchildren, Madison Streidl; Olivia Mills and Zayden Hites-Johnson; siblings, Erma "Penny" (James) Goltz of Las Vegas, NV; Catherine "Mitzi" Spicer of Monroe, MI and Joyce Golden of Monroe, MI.
The family will receive guests Friday from 2-7:00 p.m. at Newcomer funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with a Memorial Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Officiating will be Chaplain Ruth Cunning.
