Susan Wilma Szparagowski

March 9, 1942 — August 23, 2022

Susan Wilma Szparagowski (Murphy), 80, passed away on August 23, 2022 in Petersburg, Michigan.

Susan was born in Toledo, Ohio on March 9, 1942 and was raised in Samaria, Michigan. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1960, and then attended Stautzenberger College where she received an Associate's Degree in business. Upon graduation, she worked as a secretary in the fingerprinting department of the FBI in Washington, D.C. She met her late husband Raymond Szparagowski in 1962, and after they married on June 1, 1963, they began their life together in Samaria, Michigan. After four years, they moved to Point Place, Ohio and then finally to Petersburg, Michigan. During this time, they welcomed four children, Tina, Scott, Raymond, and Susan. Along the way, life happened and she retired from Crestview club apartments in 2007. Her pride and joy were her family including 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Susan loved everything Nautical. She and her husband Ray owned a houseboat, and they were members of the River View Yacht Club. They enjoyed their time together on the water with their children. Susan was a very talented and avid crafter who shared her creative skills with many. She taught basket weaving and helped her kids and grandkids with various craft projects. She was a member of a craft guild and was a co-owner of a business with her late sister, Ann Pajak, where they sold macrame. In addition, she also loved to paint, crochet, make jewelry and jewelry art, create ceramics, experiment with other crafts, and loved to play board games with her children even until she passed. She had a passion to collect globes, boats, lighthouses, and anything nautical. Another passion of hers was shopping. She did so with her sisters, by herself, or anyone who would go with her. Susan was also a salesperson for Avon and Rubbermaid. Other interests included gardening, canning, and being outside any chance she could get.

Susan loved to travel with and/or to visit her children. Some of the places she was able to enjoy were England, Canada, and various states including Hawaii, Alaska, and California. No matter where she was, if she had the chance to fish, she was on the boat! She enjoyed her summers in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. While there she enjoyed fishing, collecting rocks, and visiting various light houses on Lake Superior.

She loved her family dearly.

Susan is survived by her daughter, Tina and husband David Sieler, son, Scott Szparagowski and wife Mindy, son, Raymond Szparagowski and wife Theresa, daughter, Susan and husband Stephen Borowski, her sister Michelle Burkey, her grandchildren Jessica (and Nick) Whiteaker, Casie (and Zac) Ladd, Megan Smith and Jarett, Rebecca Szparagowski (and Phil), Raymond Szparagowski (and Morgan), Rosemary Szparagowski (and Noah), Nicole Szparagowski, Zachary (and Tabitha) Szparagowski, Brandon Szparagowski and Rae, Nicholas Borowski, and Michael Borowski, and her great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Samantha, Rhiley, Jack, Silas, Cooper, Emma, Ryan, Jace, and Issac.
