Susan Kay Smith

July 13, 1949 — April 11, 2024

Susan Kay (Hoyt) Smith, age 74 of Waterville, Ohio, passed away too soon on the morning of April 11, 2024.

Sue was born on July 13, 1949 to parents Franklin and Eleanor (Tyrrell) Hoyt. Sue graduated from Clay High School in 1967. Over the course of her life Sue held positions at Stiens, Stephen Ford, Sue & Chuck's Pizza and most recently retiring from her position at St. Luke's Hospital after working there for 24 years. Calling her a hard worker would have been an understatement. Regardless of the position, Sue understood the importance of her work and was committed to doing her job the right way.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 29 years, Chuck; sister Norma (Jacques) Khouri; and her brother Lawrence Hoyt. Sue is survived by her son Jeffrey (Kate); granddaughters Lily and Gracie; brothers Steven (Cindy) and James (Barbara) Hoyt; sister-in-law Barbara Hoyt; cousin Deb (Stan) Horak; and many nieces and nephews.

As a wife and mom, Sue was dedicated to her family. Endlessly providing support and encouragement, she was there through numerous DIY projects and school papers. She also managed to find infinite amounts of patience for a son who didn't like pizza when she and Chuck owned an independent pizza restaurant. Sue worked hard to make her house a home that would always provide comfort, and would give every opportunity to be happy and successful.

Affectionately called Super Grandma by her two granddaughters, Sue was the center of their universe. Sue made every day special for the girls. She played all the games, had all the best snacks, cuddled during all the best shows, and gave the best hugs. Sue never missed a game, a school concert, or just an opportunity to pick them up from school. From the moment they were born, Lily and Gracie always came first… and that is exactly how she and Chuck wanted it.

A quiet and private person, Sue would not have wanted a gathering in her honor. The family asks that in lieu of a service… make a hot cup of tea, read your favorite book, work on a puzzle, sit in the sun a bit, maybe plant a flower or two… but think of Sue and remember the love and light she brought to your life. Most importantly, in her honor, do something kind for someone else, expecting nothing in return.

We love you mom… we could have never done life without you.
