Susan Sandra Bowman was born January 20, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio to Yvonne (Thomas) Copeland and Mike Copeland. Susan has 2 children, Jeff Copeland and Ginger L. Gregory. She has 3 grandchildren, Jeffrey II, Cameron Copeland and Kelvin Gott II; 2 great-grandchildren, Masiah and Memphis.
Susan was raised as a Lutheran and attended St. Phillips Lutheran Church throughout grade school. She was a graduate of Scott High School, served on the Business Club, Y-Teens, Bible Club, Skits, Finance Committee, Play Committee and Student council all four years. Susan was also a Scotts Bulldog Varsity Cheerleader.
Susan was baptized at a young age at Spring Street Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Adam Daniel James. She also had attended Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. John C. Holly. Susan later attended United Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of Rev. Rudolph McKissick. After graduating from high school in 1966, she was employed by Ohio Bell, retiring after 25 years of service. Susan then went back to school and received a college degree from the University of Toledo. She loved crafts, especially country, she crocheted, painted and was a floral designer, an entrepreneur & a business owner, and she also was the face of Zelma's for several years. Susan worked as a part-time manager/floral designer for Michaels. She loved sports, especially tennis and football, and was also was a golf instructor for the Girl Scouts of America.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Bowman; parents, Yvonne Mason and Mike Copeland; grandmother, Anita Hamilton; siblings, Loretta (Willis) King, Jerome King, Fred King, Henry King, Mike Copeland, Craig Copeland, and Stephen Copeland.
She leaves to cherish her memories son, Jeffrey (Raquel) Copeland; daughter, Ginger L. Gregory (Kelvin) Gott; 3 grandchildren, Jeffrey II, Cameron and Kelvin II; 2 great-grandchildren, Masiah and Memphis; brothers, Phillip King, Solomon Copeland, Christopher (Denise) Mason; sisters, Anita White, Patricia Lightner, Faith Copeland, and Sharon Lee; many nieces, nephews, and a host of special friends; Willie Wilson, Jr., Diane Jackson, Morris Stanley, Floyd Russell, and Ralph Thornton; along with other longtime friends.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Spring Street Baptist Church, 601 Spring Street, Toledo, OH 43608 with Memorial Services beginning at 12:00 a.m. in church.
