Stephen P. Janick, Sr.
Stephen P. "Steve" Janick, Sr. age 93, died at Elizabeth Scott Community on July 7, 2008. He was born in 1915 in Buffalo, New York, to Czechoslovakian parents who immigrated to the U.S. He married Amy LaVerne Brigham in 1944 while serving in the Army Air Force as an airplane mechanic. Steve enjoyed being an amateur wrestler at the Toledo YMCA and worked for 40 years at Libbey Glass as a lehyerman. He was a life member of the American Legion, Michigan Post 34, member of the National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni, a charter member of The National World War II Museum, and past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Toledo Lodge 713.
Surviving family members include son, Stephen (Evelyn) Janick, Jr.; daughter, Sue (Gary) Zdawczyk; four grandchildren, Kara (Todd) Marsee, Rhonda (Steven) Kirby, Aaron (Chelsea) Zdawczyk and Amanda Zdawczyk; three great-grandchildren, Evan, Larkin and Mylo; and two brothers, Louis and Edward Janick. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Janick and sisters, Mary Armstrong, Ann Geldine and Josephine Wagner.
The family will receive guests Friday from 4 - 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
