Stephen Betts

Stephen L. Betts, age 80, resident of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 21, 2021, at the University of Toledo Medical Center. He was born on February 15, 1941, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Leroy Betts, Mary (Andra) Betts Lamarand.

Stephen enjoyed watching sports, CNN and American Pickers. He liked to listen to a variety of music, play euchre and when he was younger, he enjoyed bowling. He was always on the go. A quiet and sweet man, he was always thanking the nurses and staff at the hospital for taking such good care of him. Family was everything to Stephen, especially "his baby girl", Sheba, his furry companion. Stephen wasn't much for traveling, but one memory he cherished was a trip he made with the grandchildren to Disney World. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Those left to forever cherish his memory are his four surviving children, Kimberle Betts, Stephen (Sharon) Betts, Doreen (Rick) Cole, and Daniel Betts; nine grandchildren, Nikki Cole, William (Katie) Cole, Chase (Ellen) King Betts, Douglas Hentges, Sara (Dustin) Eiden, Alexander (Ashley) Betts, Mathew (Caitlin) Betts, Todd Betts, and Jeffrey Betts; ten great grandchildren; three siblings, Patricia (James) Tucker, Jack (Judith) Betts, and Sharon McCready, numerous nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma (Spaulding) Betts; step-father, Harvey Lamarand; son, Jeffrey Betts; niece, Chris McCready; and brother-in-law, Bill McCready.

Family and friends may gather at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, Ohio 43614, on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, where his funeral will take place at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Roy Southerland officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral expenses, or to a charity of the donors choice.
