Stanley Pinkava, age 92, of Sylvania, Ohio passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019. Stanley was born on May 11, 1927 to the late Joseph and Anna (Holubik) Pinkava.
In his younger years, Stanley was involved in gymnastics and boxing. He enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and was stationed in Hawaii. He was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class in 1946. Stanley then worked as a welder and construction worker before beginning his employment with the GM Transmission Division. He retired after 30 years. Stanley and his wife Eileen enjoyed attending dances at the Czech/Slovak Dance Club in Millbury, Ohio for many years. He also enjoyed working on cars and took up golf at the age of 70. Later in life Stanley primarily enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including trips to see some of them in Rhode Island, Arizona and California
Left to cherish Stanley's memory is his wife of 69 years Mary Eileen (Berning) Pinkava; children Ann Marie (Paul) Fagan, Gary (Cindy) Pinkava, Linda Sullivan, Sally (Mike) Reynolds, James Pinkava, Susan (Carl) Huffman, Julie (Brad) Maison, Mary Ellen (Bruce) Lazar, 20 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren and many extended family members.
Preceding Stanley in death are his parents, siblings, Mary Pinkava, Joseph (Irene) Pinkava, Agnes (Steve) Vasko, Frank (Maryann) Pinkava, Jerry (Millie) Pinkava, Lois Ann (Phil) Riley, son in law Mark Sullivan, and grandson Gabriel Huffman.
In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions, in Stanley's name, can be made out to the charity of the Donor's choice.
Family will be receiving friends Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Newcomer Funeral Home – West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Road, Toledo, Ohio 43617 (419-392-9500). Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
