Spencer L. Binns

Spencer L. "Lew" Binns, Jr., age 88, of Toledo, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at home. He was born on June 4, 1925 to Spencer L. Binns, Sr. and Marguerite (Eakin) Binns in Jacksonville, Florida. Lew proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He received his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech. Lew worked for Owens-Illinois, Inc. for 35 years as a Purchasing Manager.

Lew enjoyed his horses with his wife Shirley, they often went trail riding in Oak Openings. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he was very involved with his children's lives. Lew was a faithful member and Elder at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for over 30 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife 48 years, Shirley (Kummerow) Binns; children, Scott McMahon and Todd (Kris) McMahon, Connie Welling and Ellen (Scott) Swartz; grandchildren, Brian, Karen, Kristin, Heather, Corey and Jamie. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 3-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3934 W. Laskey Rd. The family will also receive guests at the church one hour prior to the service.
