Sophie (Krall) Swartz, age 91, formerly of Toledo, currently a resident of Village at Wolfcreek, Holland, passed away Friday, October 13, 2006 in St. Luke's Hospital. She was born March 27, 1915 to Anthony and Frances (Tomas) Krall in Toledo. Sophie was a former member of St. Anthony Parish and a founding member of St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church. She married Vincent Swartz on February 22, 1936. Together they operated Swartz Farm and Gardens on Airport Highway while raising four daughters. During their years at St. Pat's Sophie and Vincent provided cabbage to the church for their annual Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinners. Sophie also found time to work at the former Warzy's Bakery and Wick's Lumber for several years. Sophie, who was affectionately known to her family as "G.G." enjoyed cooking and embroidering. Most importantly, G.G. treasured the time she spent with her family and friends for Holiday Celebrations and Special Days.
In addition to her parents, G.G. was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Swartz; siblings, Irene Gray; Al Krall; Chet Krall; Rose Schwind; "Cookie" Dugan and Tony Krall; son-in-law, Carl Hoecherl and granddaughter, Tara Hertzfeld. She is survived by her daughters, Norma Jean Hoecherl of Maumee; Marilyn (Tom) Hertzfeld of Waterville; Sue (Bill) Burkett of Waterville and Elaine (Dave) Kuehnle of Pinckney, MI; 17 loving grandchildren; 38 precious great grandchildren and siblings; Ray (Rita) Krall; Edwin "Midge" (Pat) Krall; Jerry (Helen) Krall; Bernadine Smiegelski; Pat (Carl) Kowalski and Shirley (Ron) Sabin.
The family will receive guests Sunday from 2-9:00 p.m. in the Peinert Funeral Home, 7220 Dutch Rd., Waterville with a Scripture Service at 8:00 p.m. There will be a Scripture Service Sunday evening. Funeral Services will begin Monday at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
