Sixta G. Contreras (Gomez), 84, went to be with her Lord on February 7, 2012. She was born on March 28, 1927 to the late Manuela (Leyva) and Arcadio Gomez, Sr. in Knippa, TX.
Sixta loved being a mom; she absolutely adored her family. She loved gardening and always had a beautiful yard full of flowers, from Spring until Fall. Sixta enjoyed Mexican music and dancing at Luna Pier Ballroom. She mastered a variety of crafts including, crocheting, knitting, making quilts and always had time for a daily rosary. Sixta was also an excellent cook.
In addition to her parents, Sixta was preceded in death by her sister, Ramona Torres and brother, Manuel Gomez. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 64 years, Julio, Sr.; children, Ernesto (Soila), Gloria (Neo) Longoria, Edmundo (Eva), Anita (Ismael) Vargas, Rachel (Mark) Stanovich, Rebecca (Tony Perales), Irma (Bud) Gillespie, Julio, Jr. (Christine), Irene (Dan) Dougherty; siblings, Thomas, Monses, Camilla, Lupe, Juanita, Andrea, Arcadio, Jr., Mario; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Saturday from 2-8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 2214 Manhattan St., Erie, MI. Friends and family may visit for one hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
