Shirley J. Rischman, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, in Oregon, Ohio. Born on June 1, 1935, in Erie, Michigan, Shirley lived a life full of love, dedication, and compassion.
Shirley devoted her entire working life to nursing, showcasing an enduring commitment to caring for others. Her unwavering spirit and kindness touched the lives of many, reflecting her deep passion for helping those in need. She was a source of wisdom and strength, embodying grace and resilience throughout her journey.
Outside of her professional life, Shirley cherished the simple joys of life. She loved to take walks, especially with her furry companion, Gidget and listening to music filled her days with happiness and peace. She cheered for her favorite teams such as the Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons, Lions and especially the Wolverines. Most importantly, she found immeasurable joy in being with her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
Shirley was a proud matriarch, nurturing a close-knit family that included her daughter Cheryl and son Kenneth. She reveled in the laughter and love shared with her grandchildren: Dana, Matthew (Kathryn), Kenny, Vanessa, Jessica (Clint), and great-grandchildren Georgio, Ivan, Oscar, Lovern, Jackson, Levi, Willow L., Willow E.J., Isabella, Katerina, and Aurora. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and her legacy will live on through their memories of her warmth and kindness.
Shirley is now reunited with her husband, Jack E. Rischman, and her son, Jack Rischman, along with her dearly departed grandson Nicholas Karnikowski.. She is also preceded in death by her loving parents, James and Iva Monhollen and brothers, Harold and Ronald Monhollen.
Her family invites all who knew her to celebrate her life and memory at a visitation and memorial service on December 29, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH. The visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a memorial service starting at 5:00 PM. with Chaplain Timothy Rabara.
As we reflect on the life of Shirley J. Rischman, we hold dear the moments shared and the love she so freely gave. Her legacy of compassion and joy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the wonderful caregivers and staff at the Gardens of St. Francis and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Toledo Humane Society, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
