Shirley A. Perkins, 79, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 17, 2012 in Navarre, Florida, while visiting family. She was born on June 5, 1932 in Hicksville, Ohio, the daughter of Elmer and Marvel (Henderson) Robinson. On October 17, 1953, she married Jesse R. Perkins Jr. She was a member of the Red Hat Association, Mary Martha's, and The First Christian Church in Sylvania, Ohio. She enjoyed attending Bible Study every Wednesday and volunteering for her church. Shirley lead an active life traveling with friends and family, always enjoying the new experiences in each location presented. Shirley was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt who will be dearly missed by all. The highlight of her life was caring for her family. She took great pride in singlehandedly raising her four children with grace and strength.
Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Cathy L. (William) Barrand, of Erie, MI, Darlene A. (Steven) Barrand, of Toledo and Lorraine L. (Craig) Sawyer of Navarre, FL; son, David P. Perkins, of Toledo; nine grandchildren, Heather Barrand, William Barrand Jr., Steven (Patty) Barrand Jr., Stephanie (Timothy) Mowrey, David Perkins, Alexander Pio, Jesse Perkins, Jonathon Pio, Crystal Pio; and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse and brother, David Paul Robinson.
The family will receive guests on Sunday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Joseph Hara. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
